Description

The Culinary Arts Internship under the J-1 Visa Program is a structured 12-month training experience for international culinary students and recent graduates seeking exposure to the standards of a Michelin-recognized restaurant in the United States. The program provides rotational training across key kitchen stations, including preparation, garde-manger, pastry or dessert where applicable, hot line, pasta or specialized production, purchasing and receiving exposure, and final leadership integration. Interns will learn sanitation standards, mise en place, ingredient handling, knife skills, recipe execution, plating, station organization, food safety, and fine-dining service standards while developing an understanding of seasonality, teamwork, quality control, and U.S. culinary practices.

General requirements

The ideal candidate is a recent graduate of culinary institution, with formal training in culinary arts, French cuisine, pastry, gastronomy, or culinary entrepreneurship. Candidates should demonstrate strong culinary fundamentals, discipline, humility, attention to detail, and genuine interest in seasonal, ingredient-driven fine dining. Prior exposure to professional kitchens through school training, internships, apprenticeships, or restaurant experience is preferred. Experience with mise en place, knife skills, sauces, pasta, pastry, garde-manger, plating, sanitation, and service preparation is valuable. The candidate must be coachable, punctual, respectful, resilient, and committed to structured J-1 training and cultural exchange.
