Description
The Deli Prep Assistant supports the Deli team by preparing ingredients, portioning salads, cutting meats and cheeses, and setting up the prep area for daily service. They follow Safeway’s recipes and safety protocols while learning the basics of food presentation, temperature control, and equipment use (slicers, ovens, steamers). This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in food service operations and teamwork in a fast-paced retail environment.
General requirements
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Stand/walk for extended periods; bend, reach, and lift up to 40–50 lbs. (with or without accommodation).
- Tolerate variable temperatures in coolers/freezers and brief outdoor tasks (cart retrieval, carry-outs).
- Dress code: Black, gray, khaki, navy blue solid slacks. Black slip resistant shoes. Black, white or navy polo shirt.
- Grooming code: Neat and clean: Nails, hair, breath, clothing.
Compensation
$12.75/hr
