Barbuto is a West Village restaurant that has been a neighborhood gathering spot, welcoming locals and visitors alike, since February 2004, when it first opened its doors in its original location at Washington and Jane Streets, where it was truly a staple. After reopening in October 2021 in its new home at 113 Horatio Street at West Street, a mere three hundred steps from the original, the restaurant is on its way to earning that status again.

The name means "bearded" in Italian. When the concept was developed, Jonathan Waxman and his business partner at the time, Fabrizio Ferri, both sported beards, and so did Fabrizio's Irish Wolfhound Gideon, who is immortalized in the logo.

At its heart, Barbuto is a casual restaurant offering Chef Jonathan Waxman's celebrated Californian-Italian cuisine, simple and seasonal. Jonathan Waxman received the James Beard Foundation award for Best Chef: NYC in 2016.
